My early career began in the Performing
Arts, as a dancer with the Potomac Ballet (in Maryland)
and later with the Saratoga Ballet (in upstate NY).
Many "aches and pains" later, I hung up
my toe shoes, and began a career in the Visual Arts.
Throughout my formal art training, I chose not to
specialize in any one medium, and work as an interdisciplinary
artist (a "Jill" of all trades). I earned
a BFA in Art from Florida State University in 2002,
before coming to Vermont College.
The concentration of my art addresses
issues of community, consumerism, and over-consumption.
I am drawn to non-hierarchical modes of creating
and communicating art. Many of my pieces are collaborative
works with "non-artists" that reach an
audience outside the traditional gallery setting.
My mother taught me how to sew at
a young age. Often, I incorporate elements of sewing
in my pieces. I give special emphasis to using craft
mediums (of fiber, paper, and clay) and placing
them into a contemporary context. In conjunction
to my studio work, I teach classes in clothing construction
and quilt making in Tallahassee, FL.
